Course Overview:
Paint a canvas floor cloth that becomes a decorative, hardwearing, washable alternative to carpet. Long before modern linoleum, floor cloths brought colour, pattern and durability into everyday homes, offering a practical and creative surfaces. Working with a beautiful palette of colour, from intense, brilliant primaries to soft summer hues, you will explore texture, pattern and surface. Using a simple technique, you will design custom stencils inspired by animal footprints, fish, birds, repeating motifs and textural elements. You will also learn how to paint or print cascading flowers, capture real leaf prints, create painterly rag roses, or experiment with contemporary abstract shapes. Endlessly versatile, floor cloths make wonderful runners, placemats, pet mats and boot trays, adding charm to any space.

Hand Painted Fabric. 2 Day.- &175
Create fabulous fabric, exploring colour, pattern and texture. Learn the techniques of hand painting, fluid wash, leaf/botanical prints, marking and stamping…all ideal surface embellishment for clothing, scarves, sarongs, table cloths, yardage etc.
Experiment with wonderful water based environmentally friendly dyes. They are ideal for using full strength, allowing strong brilliant colour for printing or diluted, for soft and subtle shades and hues, great colour for fashion, interiors or fine art.
Experiment with colour mixing, pattern, textures and overlays, you will have the opportunity to combine many already learned techniques with a new range of expressive skills.
Let loose with colour and pattern — big and bold or small and intricate to encourage your artistic freedom and self expression.
There will be material costs $10 payable on the first day.
Furniture Painting and Decorating--Chalk Paint, , Waxes, Washes and Glazes 2 Day-$175
Update your old wood table and chairs or repaint and refinish a ‘garage-sale’ piece of furniture with a garden motif of cascading vines, flowers, fish, birds, animal footprints to name a few. Add birch bark, paint a southwest motif or a mosaic inlay, then add an antique glaze to give your piece a ‘primitive’ look. Students will bring a piece of furniture to class that is unpainted or in need of repainting and you the student will transform an old piece of furniture into a functional and decorative work of art! Experiment with techniques such as sponging, ragging, marbling, stenciling, faux and direct painting techniques.
There will be a $10 material fee payable to the instructor on the first day.
Painted and Decorated Canvas: Floor Mats, Place Mats, Cat Mats and Beyond- 2 Day $175
Experiment with hand painting, leaf prints, abstract techniques on canvas, with colour and textures. Be inspired by the flora and fauna around us: create cascading vines, animal prints, fish, bird or abstract patterns.The canvas when finished and sealed with a clear glaze becomes a a hard wearing decorated floor covering ,place mat etc. that can be used inside and outside.
Canvas may be purchased from the instructor Approx. $6.00/3×3 ft and
